"You have to take life one step at a time. Everybody is on some crappy roads in life. When you are on crappy roads you have two choices; you can either persevere up the hill in front of you or you can turn around."
Anne Mahlum is the founder of Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization that uses the power of running to change the way those experiencing homelessness see themselves, so they can make real change in their lives. It promotes self-sufficiency of homeless people through engaging them in running as a way to build confidence, strength, and self-esteem. Once they are in the right state of mind, the nonprofit looks to help them with employment and housing. Back on my feet provides that push in the right direction and cultivates an environment conducive to trying new things, making new friends, and establishing strong life qualities.
She is an inspiration to audiences everywhere reminding them that change begins within us and that all it takes is one step to begin to live a better life. She captures her audience immediately and keeps them engaged until the very end. Her story resonates with all, her energy is contagious, and the personal touch makes it even more real. Anne is a two-time TEDx speaker, featured in a book called 50 Everyday Hero’s, a guest on the NBC Today Show and CBS evening news, an entrepreneur, marathoner and a triathlete.
She looks to build a community that helps people become the strongest and best version of themselves. Anne has inspired many women to consider their health and wellness as a whole: mind, body, and spirit already at the Fargo Women’s Health Conference in May. She looks to inspire more women in the region as she takes the stage at the Ramkota hotel in Bismarck on Monday, September 29, 2014.
Anne is originally from Bismarck, North Dakota and currently lives in DC. She has completed 11 marathons, four triathlons and loves to constantly challenge her body, her mind and her spirit.
